When you want something in life, reach out and grab it.

Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road. Escaped from Atlanta. Thou shalt not return, 'cause "the West is the best." And now after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual pilgrimage. Ten days and nights of freight trains and hitchhiking bring him to the Great White North. No longer to be poisoned by civilization he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild.

For children are innocent and love justice, while most of us are wicked and naturally prefer mercy.

Men make counterfeit money; in many more cases, money makes counterfeit men.

Do it their way and be driven insane. Or do it your way and be called insane.

The importance of a job is inversely proportional to its paygrade.

One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between Man and Nature shall not be broken.

We lost because we told ourselves we lost.

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.

The only rules to follow are those you set for yourself.

Public opinion is a weak tyrant compared with our own private opinion. What a man thinks of himself, that is which determines, or rather indicates, his fate.

Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. I sat at a table where were rich food and wine in abundance, and obsequious attendance, but sincerity and truth were not; and I went away hungry from the inhospitable board. The hospitality was as cold as the ices.

That man is the richest whose pleasures are the cheapest.

When we are unhurried and wise, we perceive that only great and worthy things have any permanent and absolute existence, that petty fears and petty pleasures are but the shadow of the reality.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

No man ever followed his genius till it misled him. Though the result were bodily weakness, yet perhaps no one can say that the consequences were to be regretted, for these were a life in conformity to higher principles. If the day and the night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, is more elastic, more starry, more immortal, - that is your success. All nature is your congratulation, and you have cause momentarily to bless yourself. The greatest gains and values are farthest from being appreciated. We easily come to doubt if they exist. We soon forget them. They are the highest reality... The true harvest of my daily life is somewhat as intangible and indescribable as the tints of morning or evening. It is a little star-dust caught, a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.

Go to work, send your kids to school, follow fashion, act normal, walk on the pavement, watch T.V., save for your old age, obey the law. Repeat after me: I am free.

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

Why do people clean their children's mouths with soap, when the dirty thing has left it?

Free time is measured by the amount of time you can keep your eyes open.

When you go walking, don't ask how far, or what direction. None is better than the other. One chosen just gives regrets. Just go.

Primitive skills make for lighter demands on nature - so which are the more primitive?

But what a great joy to know you are stronger than your desires!

If you look out the window and see nothing worth seeing, it is not the window which is closed, for even in a shuttered window, there are more intricate designs than will ever be comprehended, it is your mind.

Time is only short and fleeting if you let it be.

Why can you sleep in a parked house, but not a parked car?

Why is it that we're created equally, but that equality is lost as soon as we choose to be different?

How is it that people gravitate to the artificial when all attempts to equal the natural are admitted failures by all?

Why is it that most people deny the evidence of their own eyes? They say you can't live without money, it's impossible, yet the animals around us do it every day! Are you really so blind?

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

The moment life stops being an adventure is the moment you've become adult; in other words, a boring plastic manequin inflexible to all change; grow up a little, be a kid.

Why study history when there's more to be learned from happening in the present moment than you shall ever see?

How can something that didn't exist 100 years ago be a necessity?

If you're worried about how good you look, you'll never let anyone see how beautiful you are.

Rules are made by those who lack the vision to see the potential of breaking them.

Why is it that talking about nothing is considered more healthy than thinking about something?
